Beyond Meat, Roku & Country House (5/19)

May 9, 2019 By dkreinces

BYND Gains 242% in 4 DaysBeyond Meat investor Jessica Chastain attends the opening bell ceremony at Nasdaq MarketSite to mark the IPO of Beyond Meat, May 2, 2019 in New York City. The company had the best U.S. IPO of the year so far.

Where’s the Beef? was the hottest commercial in 1984. Fast forward 35 years to 2019 and the hottest IPO is Beyond Meat (BYND), a meatless burger company that just soared 242% in four days.

In fact, the plant protein mega-trend includes passionate advocates like Tom Brady, Paul McCartney, and Beyonce, all of whom are strong supporters of plant-based diets.

Beyond Burgers

Here are a few more reasons everyone is talking about Beyond Meat:

1) People need to eat more salad per Forks Over Knives and Cowspiracy. While Beyond Meat burgers are far from a bowl of salad, they are much closer than a hamburger, and that’s progress.

2) The people behind Beyond Meat include an impressive and diverse group of operators, investors, athletes, and celebrities including a former McDonald’s CEO, Kleiner Perkins, Goldman Sachs, Bill Gates, Kyrie Irving, Chris Paul, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jessica Chastain. This certainly comprises an influential team to accomplish the mission.

3) Perhaps most importantly, Beyond Meat refuses to use gluten or GMOs in order to produce a healthier product and the alternative meat category has extraordinary growth potential. In fact, the company is focused on innovation, exploring 30 different options with quality ingredients; such as mung beans and sunflower seeds.

Beyond Passion

Overall, there is no substitute for passion, and CEO Ethan Brown has a mission to make plant-based protein the healthiest, tastiest, and most affordable choice for all consumers. Bravo Mr. Brown and Team BYND!

ETF PM has long positions in BYND.

Roku Up 27% Intra-Day

At the peak intra-day today, Roku (ROKU) was up 27% from the prior day’s close, and the company had already returned almost 53% annualized over the past five years. The only thing streaming more than Netflix and Disney this year is Roku’s stock price!

ETF PM has long positions in ROKU.

Country House Long Shot

The historic long shot Country House won the Kentucky Derby and paid 65-1 odds. On Wall Street, we call extremely unlikely events “black swans,” such as the crash of 2008.

In fact, one of our favorite books, Nassim Taleb’s “Fooled By Randomness,” coined this term for investors.

Bottom Line

ETF PM has long positions in BYND and ROKU as we constantly search for positive black swans.
